The horror flick [REC] 2 starts in the screening room on Friday, October 15. Picking up right where the first film left off, [REC] 2 is sure to help quench your Halloween horror cravings! Unfamiliar with the franchise? Well, as you probably know, we here at CinemaSalem use the screening room to bring you a delectable selection of indie and foreign fare.[REC] is the latter–a Spanish film directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza.

[REC] follows a reporter and her cameraman as they set out to document the overnight activities of firefighters. As the night progresses, the firefighters and camera crew alike find themselves trapped inside an apartment building after the authorities mysteriously seal it off–even as a policeman and fireman lay dying inside. As such, it’s completely believable when the reporter urges her cameraman to keep filming. I enjoyed The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield as much as anyone, but let’s face it, both films strain suspension of disbelief as the films’ subjects continue to film as all hell breaks loose.

If you haven’t heard of [REC] and [REC] 2, you’ve probably heard of Quarantine, the somewhat toothless American remake of [REC]. Either way, I highly recommend checking out the original. As luck would have it, you can catch [REC] for free if you have Comcast On Demand. It’s in the FEARnet section of their free movies. And then come by CinemaSalem for the sequel in the screening room! Mention this blog post and get a free small popcorn.
