I’m not sure if you know, but there is a new film movement in France dubbed the “new vibe” movement. This movement revives around the suburban Arab and African neighborhoods of Paris. I learned about this movement through a trailer for a film that was screened at Cannes. This film stars KT Gorique, a female rapper who was the first to win “the world championship of freestyle of the END OF THE WEAK in New York” in 11 years. This film isn’t only about a rappers battle into fame, it’s about a surpassing social standards. It sheds light into the struggle of living in Paris’ suburban projects. Indiewire.com says “The entire film was improvised after a workshop of one month in the city of Saint-Denis” which I believe adds to the integrity of the overall film. Needless to say I am very excited about seeing this film. Below is the freestyle that won KT Gorique the end of the weak in New York.
